City warns of vendor hoax agents

Council doesn't charge for vendors to be added to the supplier database.

THE City does not charge suppliers to register on their database. This is according to Head of eThekwini Municipality’s Communications Unit, Tozi Mthethwa, who issued a statement following reports of hoax agents charging suppliers a fee to register on the vendor portal.

Mthethwa added that the City was aware of agents fraudulently charging suppliers and then restricting access to login information.

“This act then hinders the supplier’s engagement with the City regarding requests for proposals and possible opportunities to quote for services and goods. This act contravenes the City’s policies. We don’t charge suppliers to register on our database and neither does National Treasury,” she said.

Both National Treasury and the City have walk-in centres and other resources available to aid suppliers in registering at no cost.

The location of walk-in centres to register as a supplier with Treasury can be found at www.csd.gov.za and the Durban office to register as a supplier is based at 6th floor, City Engineers Building, KE Masinga Road, Durban.
