Owners of abandoned dog to be charged

Shivering and hungry, the dog was found tied with a telephone cable.

THE owners of an abandoned Wire Haired Terrier will be charged for abandoning their pet dog when they moved house on Saturday. This is according to Neeri Naidoo of Phoenix Animal Care & Treatment (PACT), an organisation that takes care of and finds forever homes for abandoned animals.

The tiny dog was found tied to a fence with a telephone cable.

“The dog’s owners were evicted from the house that they were renting in Phoenix. The landlord went to the house to conduct an inspection and found the dog tied up outside. Not knowing what to do further, they contacted me,” Naidoo said.

There were empty bowls near the shivering dog and it is unclear when was the last time the dog was fed. Naidoo said they removed the dog from the property and took her to the Ashburne Veterinary Clinic where she was spayed.

Naidoo added that they were able to trace where the dog’s owners had moved to and will be taking further action against them. She said they were going to institute criminal action against the owners.

“We are looking for a foster or forever home for her or she will be stranded,” Naidoo expressed.

Anyone wanting to adopt the dog, can contact PACT on 073 005 4275.
