PROTESTERS are wreaking havoc in the uMgeni Road vicinity and motorists are advised to stay away from the area. Unconfirmed reports are also coming through about protesters stoning cars.
Social media groups have been flooded with news of the protests where it is been reported that tyres are being burnt in Alpine Road, towards the major intersection with uMgeni Road. What’s more, at the same time there are also protests in uMgeni Road. The Alpine Road protests are allegedly being fueled by aggrieved shack-dwelling residents while in uMgeni Road by taxi drivers have blocked off the busy road.
Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security confirmed they have received reports of burning tyres and debris strewn along uMgeni Road. Police and eThekwini Fire Department are responding to the protests.
