Local resident killed in Musgrave accident

The local resident was hit by an alleged drunk driver on Saturday night on Essenwood Road.

THERE has been an outpouring of grief for one of South Africa’s most well-known travel bloggers and photographers, Andy Carrie, who was killed in a motorbike accident on Saturday night.

The former Crawford College La Lucia pupil, was hit by an alleged drunk driver in Essenwood Road. According to Berea SAPS spokesman PN Naidoo, charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving were brought against the driver. He will be appearing in court later today.

The Mt Edgecombe resident shared his love for travel and South Africa and was well-known in the travel industry. Carrie had just recently returned to Durban after being in Abu Dhabi for the Formula 1 race.

Gordon Reid, who knew Carrie, said he was heartbroken to hear the news.

“Andy was just a great guy and I think from the outpouring of grief on social media, you really get to see what he meant to so many people. I’m heartbroken as is everyone who knew him. We are keeping his parents and family in our thoughts and prayers,” he said.

Tributes poured in across social media for Carrie with many paying homage to his character.
