Days numbered for ‘Prophet of Doom’

The controversial pastor has until January to explain why an order, banning the use of an insecticide spray on his congregants should not be made permanent.

THE Limpopo department of health has obtained a court order that prevents the ‘Prophet of Doom’ from spraying the insecticide in the faces of his Mount Zion General Assembly (MZGA) members. A video surfaced last month showing the self-professed prophet, Lethebo Rabalago, spraying Doom in his congregants’ faces. According to Rabalago, the Doom casts out demons.

Department spokesman, Derrick Kganyago confirmed that they had approached the court in the hopes of obtaining the order.

Kganyago explained that insecticide is not for human consumption and was a serious health concern. He added that despite congregants not showing any physical signs of illness, serious symptoms could manifest at a later stage.

Following the release of the controversial footage, Tiger Brands the maker of the insecticide Doom released a statement saying  they found this practice alarming and extremely concerning. They added it was unsafe to spray Doom Super Multi Insect Killer, or any other aerosol spray into people’s faces.

“Doom has been formulated to kill specific insects which are detailed on the cans, and the packaging has very clear instructions and health warnings for humans which must be adhered to. Using this product for purposes other than what it is intended for poses health risks and is therefore dangerous,” the statement read.

Rabalago has been given until January 2017 to come forward and defend his reasons before the order is made permanent.
