WATCH: Ring goes home to Lyn, 46 years later

La Lucia's treasure hunter finally hands over the ring that her son lost 20 years ago.

THE ring that made headlines around the country, has finally been handed to its rightful owner. This afternoon, La Lucia’s Donald Ensor handed over the gold band to an excited Lyn Lukas, who called Ensor ‘a star’ for returning her wedding ring.

Last month, Ensor found the ring while on one of his usual detectoring sessions at a Durban beachfront. He put it in his pocket and it was only when he got home and looked at it again that he realised there were four names, Lyn and Tom and Brent and Peggy with both couple’s wedding dates engraved on the inside of the ring.

Ensor posted on Facebook asking for people to come forward if they knew the owners of the ring. Last week, he was contacted by a woman who told him that the ring belonged to a relative of hers. After a flurry of phone calls, it was established that the ring was lost during a fishing trip to Durban 20 years ago.

Lukas (77) grew up in Nongoma and later moved to Empangeni after she married Tom. The couple was married for 26 years and when Tom passed away, she gave the ring to their son, Brent.

“It was Brent who had our names and wedding dates engraved on the inside of the ring. I loved my ring. I chose it because it wasn’t very fancy and I had no idea Brent had lost it. I was very surprised when he called to tell me it had been found after all those years,” she said.

Lukas said she will hold on dearly to the ring and make sure it is always kept safe.

“Donald is an absolute star. I am so happy to have my ring back,” she said.
