SAPS kick 16 Days of Activism into high gear

Spotlight on anti abuse campaign.

GREENWOOD Park SAPS kicked off 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign with a snake patrol through their policing precinct recently.

The station’s spokesperson, W/O Leon Audh said along with their Community Policing Forum members, eThekwini Municipality’s Safer Cities officials, officers from private security companies, local councillors and other government stakeholders, they were able to bring about awareness for this annual cause.

The campaign, 16 Days of Activism, takes on the plight of abused women and children around the country. The campaign further seeks to call for an end of violence, in any form, meted out to women and children.

The international anti-abuse campaign began on 25 November, which is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and runs until 10 December, known as International Human Rights Day. Locally it was adopted in 1998 and continues to raise awareness about the negative impact of abuse against women and children.

W/O Audh said various speakers spoke to the community about how to identify abuse, the procedures that one should follow once a case of abuse has been identified and who to contact when the need arises.

“Awareness desks were also set up by both police and private security personnel to hand out pamphlets pertaining to all types of abuse,” he added.
