WATCH: Pushing and shoving for Black Friday deals

Black Friday chaos brings traffic to a standstill around one of the biggest shopping centres in the country.

THOUSANDS of bargain hunters dashed to malls across the country hoping to bag a Black Friday deal today. Roads leading to and from Gateway, one of the biggest shopping malls in the Southern hemisphere, are heavily jammed.

More than 12 000 parking bays at the busy shopping centre are currently filled as shoppers started queuing long before the shops opened at 9am on Friday.  And while some walked off with what they are calling the biggest discounts of the year, others were left with empty trolleys as shoppers pushed and shoved to claim their deal. Traffic at Virginia Circle that leads to Checkers is currently backed up.

Hundreds of photographs and videos of shoppers standing in long queues are doing the rounds on social media groups. Emergency services were on standby in case of emergencies.

No major incidents were reported at any of the major malls today.
