One Future Foundation feeds the hungry

One loaf of bread can feed eight people.

ONE Future Foundation is a registered Non-Profit Organisation that conducts a weekly feeding project to people living on the streets.

Run by husband and wife, Marc and Nicole Maurel, the Foundation manages to hand out sandwiches and an apple to the needy, along the Point and beachfront area.

Explaining more about who they are, Maurel said the Foundation was started in September this year.

“Initially, we were feeding about 20 people. Since then, the number has grown to 120. We conduct a feeding every Wednesday and it’s a peanut butter and jam sandwich and an apple,” he said.

The idea behind One Future Foundation is to meet the basic needs of those living on the street.

“When people are hungry, they try to conserve as much energy as they can. When they are hungry, they cannot learn and they cannot work,” he said.

Maurel said their greatest marketing tool, that has helped them with their feeding project is social media.

“We just post up what we need for a feeding and people respond. One load of bread can feed eight people,” he added.

They are hoping to launch a second feeding project on a Sunday, that will run from the north beach parking area.

“Investors are looking at changing the city. We are looking at changing the people,” Maurel said.

He and his wife are joined by a team of volunteers who fund the Foundation.

They have set up drop off points at; Spiga (Durban North), Ciao Bella (Point area) and at BBM Cafe in Salt Rock, where residents can donate items. Residents wanting to get involved with One Future Foundation, can contact Nicole Maurel via nicole@onefuturefoundation.org
