Woman (58) assaulted in attempted hijacking

"I was inside the house when I heard her terrifying screams."

An Acutt Avenue woman was rushed to hospital following an attempted hijacking outside her home this afternoon. The incident comes less than two hours after a gang ransacked a Clarendon Road home, where a domestic worker was looking after a two-year-old boy.

According to, Gcinile Bukhosini,  her mother-in-law, Thoko Bukhosini, was in her garage when two men approached her and demanded the keys to her Mercedes Benz.

“I was inside the house when I heard her terrifying screams. I rushed outside and saw two men running away from the garage and down the road,” she said.

“My mother-in-law was banging on the garage door and screaming for help. The men had locked her inside the garage and ran off. Once the garage door is locked, you cannot open it from the inside. We managed to help her open the door and saw that she was bleeding. She had been hit on the head. She was bleeding from the wound,” Bukhosini said.

She added that the suspects took the car keys and fled. The 58-year-old victim was rushed to hospital by her daughter.

Carol van Tonder, a SAPS reservist and chairperson of the Durban North uMhlanga Crisis Team, were at the scene.

“Residents need to be very vigilant and always check the surroundings. If you are entering your premises and something doesn’t feel right, keep driving. If you feel that you are being followed, rather drive around the block,” she said.

Greenwood Park SAPS is investigating the matter.  The Northglen News was alerted to the incident by Sun Cell Watch.
