Robberies rise as festive season approaches

SAPS urge residents, businessmen to be vigilant.

AS the festive season draws closer, business and home owners are urged to be vigilant. Police said residents must report any and all suspicious people around their premises.

The call comes after a business owner and customers were held up at a shop in Avoca Hills Drive on Saturday. According to Greenwood Park police spokesman, W/O Leon Audh, the suspect entered the shop at around 6:30pm and accosted the store owner at his premises.

“The suspect pointed a firearm at the businessman and three more suspects entered the shop. The suspects further demanded that the business owner open the safe for them. At the time of the robbery, there were customers inside the shop and they were accosted for their cell phones. The four suspects fled the scene in a red Toyota Tazz and an undisclosed amount of money and cell phones,” Audh said.

Greenwood Park SAPS is investigating a case of business robbery and is calling on the public to come forward if they have any information that could lead to an arrest. Witnesses can contact Det/Cst N.P. Mhlongo on 0738621700.
