Scam duo target uMhlanga shops

The men have been linked to five cases of theft in the area.

DURBAN North police are looking for two men allegedly linked to several theft cases at uMhlanga shops in recent weeks. Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, said the men who were pretending to be travelling salesman in order to gain access to businesses had already stolen from five shops in the area. They have targeted a shop on Umhlanga Rocks Drive and have been spotted at the Crescent and at Gateway shopping malls.

“We’ve linked the men to five cases in uMhlanga alone. They pretend to sell Christian CDs and DVDs. They then gain access to businesses with one of the men distracting people while the others steal cell phones and other items lying around. In each of the cases the men have been spotted in the same clothing.

“They are aged between 25 and 30 years old. We are appealing to businesses not to leave valuables in plain sight if there are strangers in the office. We are also urging business owners to be vigilant and not be too trusting. If anyone has any information about the two men, contact Det W/O Vicky Moodley on 031 560 8128,” he said.
