Billy breaks foot, and a world record

The Sunningdale resident won his seventh world pro-body boarding title at the annual championships.

SUNNINGDALE resident, Billy Tennant made history at the World Flowboarding Championships (WFC) at the Wave House Sentosa in Singapore recently winning his seventh world pro-body boarding title at the annual championships and his fourth drop knee title.

Remarkably, the 31-year-old did all of this with a broken foot, which he didn’t even know about until the next day.

“I’m so stoked. I didn’t even realise I’d broken my foot. It was in the final heat and I remember falling awkwardly, there was a sharp pain, but I didn’t think anything of it. I was just riding on the adrenaline. This year I told myself before travelling to Singapore that I was going to have fun no matter what. It’s a fantastic feeling winning my seventh world title, something I will never ever forget,” he enthused.

The former Northwood School pupil has now extended his record as the first South African athlete to win four successive flowboarding world titles.

“When I won my first world title I didn’t really anticipate how far I would go in this sport. I’m truly blessed to be where I am today. I’d love to win 10 world titles but at the same time I’m content with where I am now. Nobody in the world has been able to do this, so it’s made the feeling even more special,” he said.

Tennant has now set his sights on winning the US Flowboarding Open, a title that has eluded him in his career.
