The Hollywoodbets Dolphins is a well decorated cricket franchise that has seen many prolific cricketers walk in and out of its doors. That glowing list however can never be complete without mentioning the current captain Morne Van Wyk.

Born in 1979 and a proud native of Bloemfontein city, Morne is a phenomenal athlete with a unique combination of fundamental soundness, grace, speed, power, artistry, improvisational ability and an unquenchable competitive desire, It does not come as a surprise therefore that he has been nicknamed “Morras / Meanest”.

Raised in a cricket loving family, Morne knew from a very young age that he would pursue a career in cricket. He credits his father for being the first inspiration and mentor in his career. Till today, Morne fondly remembers how his father handed him his first bat as a boy in his formative years at Grey College.

Respected around the Dolphins franchise and the entire cricket community for being a dependable leader and astute motivational speaker, Morne is an aggressive right-hand opening batsman and wicket keeper of note. Particularly strong square of the wicket, he is at home against all types of bowling.

Morne is a natural cricketer and he is considered as an accessible star by many of his peers. Morne is also held in high esteem by the club management and consistently celebrated as an astute signing. Being a visionary that he is, from the start of his time at the Dolphins franchise, Morne set his heart and mind to be a dependable player at the club and also ensuring that he helps the team in developing a winning mentality. It is this cultivated mentality across the team that has seen the team record some impressive wins and championships in the recent past.

Off the field, Morne is a happily married man to his wife of more than a decade Carnien. Over the years they have grown as a family with three kids. While his cricket career may not have started at lightning bolt speed like his family life, Morne can boast of having played for South Africa at limited overs level and the World Cup.” My cricket career is more than awards and championships, it’s about my entire contribution to the sport, it’s what I want to be remembered for” adds Morne.
