Call to vaccinate four million children

The Health Department hopes to vaccinate over four million children against preventable, yet deadly childhood diseases.

THE Department of Health has launched a campaign to fight childhood related diseases and mortality.

As part of the nationwide Integrated Child Health Campaign, which will run from 31 October to 18 November, the department hopes to reach over four million children under the age of five.

Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, the minister of health, urged parents and caregivers to take all children to their nearest clinic to get them vaccinated against the most common and preventable childhood diseases, such as Polio and measles.

Motsoaledi said the children would simultaneity be screened for malnutrition in selected districts throughout the country.

“The department working together with various stakeholders, will set-up health service points at health facilities including the clinics, crèches and pre-schools, while mobile clinics and temporary posts will be also available in places such as shops and churches within our communities,” she said.
