Manhunt underway as hijackings continue

Police are positive that arrests are imminent.

THE spate of hijackings in the Greenwood Park community has been continuing unabated. This week alone there has been two more incidents reported.

The hijackings began spiraling out of control in October. Station spokesman, W/O Leon Audh, said he believed the sudden spike was due to the fact that the area was full of exit routes.

In the latest incident, three armed men kidnapped the Avoca resident, after a white Nissan 1400 bakkie pulled up behind him in his driveway on Avoca Road.

It is believed the men forced him out of the driver’s seat and into the back of his red Mercedes Benz.

“The suspects then fled the crime scene with the complainant still in the car and later dropped him off in Inanda, after robbing him his jewellery, wallet and cell phone,” said Audh.

Audh confirmed that the vehicle had since been recovered.

The second hijacking occurred on Tuesday. The victim was also parked outside his driveway on Julian Road in Avoca at 6am in the morning when he was accosted by a single armed man. The suspect forced the victim out of his car and fled with the Toyota Corolla, a cell phone, wallet and ID book. The vehicle was also recovered on the N2. “We are still on a manhunt for the perpetrators. Fingerprints have been lifted and we are certain that we will make arrests soon,” he said.
