Man robbed of R67 500 outside La Lucia bank

The man was robbed by armed suspects who were wearing balaclavas.

A MAN was robbed of R67 500 in cash outside a bank in La Lucia on Tuesday at about 10am. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the man was walking to the bank to deposit the  money when he was accosted.

“Four men, all wearing balaclavas pulled up alongside the victim. The suspects were using a white M3 with a NPN registration. The suspects who were armed grabbed the bag with the money and fled. It is unclear at this stage if the suspects involved are the same ones who robbed a businessman of R15 000 in uMhlanga on Saturday.

“We are urging residents to avoid carrying large sums of money, and consider electronic banking, which is a safer option. Unfortunately we have seen a spike in this type of crime,” he said.
