Kayla’s ‘paw’some necklace idea

Through her organisation, Scarlett Paws, van Rensburg hopes to use her modelling work to raise awareness and funds for charity.

AFTER raising more than R6 000 for Monkey Helpline, Durban North resident, Kayla van Rensburg, has decided to raise funds for an animal organisation by making necklaces and selling them for charity. Through her organisation, Scarlett Paws, an organisation that helps raise funds for charities based in South Africa, van Rensburg hopes to use her modelling work to raise awareness and funds for charity.

“The necklaces have a ‘cat person’ sign on them and I spotted them on the internet and thought, they would make lovely necklaces. I decided to make them and sell them for charity. I haven’t decided at this stage which animal charity I’ll be supporting but as the charity drive goes on, I’ll make a decision on 1 November. The necklaces are R30 each and 100 per cent of all sales will be donated to a charity/organisation,” she said.

Van Rensburg’s love for animals started at a young age because of her grandmother who worked for a vet.

“My granny worked for a vet and I think I developed a passion for animals watching her work, that’s how it all started. There were always animals around and my gran would often help no matter what and I feel the same. I use my modelling work to raise awareness.

“The amazing thing is the support, not just from the local residents, but from the international community has been amazing. I had a guy from Italy donate stuff which we sold for charity which was amazing,” she said.
