Fishermen honoured at funeral

Hundreds of family and friends attended the funeral of the two friends.

HUNDREDS of grief-stricken mourners gathered today for a funeral in Phoenix to pay their last respects to the two fishermen who tragically drowned at Virginia Beach on Sunday.

Waseem Adam (21), an engineering student and mechanic, Imran Noor-Mohamed (30) were reportedly washed out to sea after Adam slipped and fell.

A brave Noor-Mohamed leapt in after his friend, in a desperate attempt to rescue him, but the ocean’s strong currents overwhelmed both of the men.

Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen said they were called to the scene just after 2pm.

“When our guys arrived at the scene the men were about one kilometre from the pier. Members of the Marshall Security’s Special Operations team leap in off the pier to retrieve the men,” he said.

Security officials were only able to retrieve Noor-Mohamed.

When they reached the shore cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was done for over 40 minutes, however, the he was declared dead at the scene.

Adam’s body was recovered 45 minutes later, after it washed up along the shore.
