Test your winning streak for charity

The 31 Club's mad-hatter themed high tea bridge drive promises to be a day of fun.

THE selfless women of the 31 Club are once again preparing to raise some much-needed funds for their numerous altruistic projects. Through their last four fundraisers, the Dare to Love Yourself Valentine’s Day fundraiser, the Tutti Fruitti Ladies’ Golf Day fundraiser, the annual Men’s Golf Day charity drive and the Kloof Spring fundraiser, the women have collected over R285 000.

This time the club will be hosting its annual Ladies Bridge Drive.

The mad-hatter themed high tea bridge drive promises to be a day of fun, said co-chairlady, Jennifer Johnson. There will be duplicate and ordinary bridge games.

The 31 Club is a registered non-profit organisation formed in 1962 by a group of women under the chairmanship of Norma Rattray. Every year, the club hosts several events to raise funds used to support 50 organisations within the greater Durban area, including the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, CHOC, Highway Hospice, and Durban Child and Youth Care Centre.

As the group consisted of 31 volunteers, the club was named accordingly, and membership remains at a maximum of 31 members who work on a regular voluntary basis.

“It is humbling to be able to make a difference. The problems often look huge and impossible, but everybody can make a small difference – and this is our way of doing just that,” said Johnson.

The event will be held on Tuesday, 8 November at the Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate’s Sandpiper and Kingfisher Room at 9am. Entrance costs R300 per person. Only a few tables remain available. Tea, coffee and a light lunch will be served. Contact Pam Alexander on 082 457 8554.
