Women targeted in Greenwood Park crime

Three women were targeted in three separate incidents this week in the Greenwood Park policing district.

POLICE from the Greenwood Park policing district had their hands full this week with a reported hijacking, a house robbery as well as a smash-and-grab case on the M25 bridge. Women were targeted in all three incidents.

The house robbery, said station spokesman, W/O Leon Audh, took place in broad daylight in Sea Cow Lake. The Crow Road homeowner alleged that at around 2pm on Thursday she heard the front door of her home being forced open.

An armed man who demanded cash then confronted the resident.

“After ransacking the place, the suspect covered the victim with a duvet before fleeing the crime scene with her cell phone, tablet and an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.

In the hijacking a woman was also accosted after 7pm, while parked outside her parent’s home on Draeger Place in Corovoca.

While the victim was waiting in her car, she saw an Audi go past, and when the vehicle returned,  two men jumped out.

“One of the suspects who was armed demanded the car keys and other belongings. It was at this time that the complainant’s father arrived to open the gate only to be pointed with a firearm by the suspects and instructed to go back into the yard,” he said.

The suspects then fled the scene with the victim’s BMW, a laptop, cell phone and jewellery.

At the M25 bridge, off Chris Hani Road, a woman was robbed at gunpoint after the suspect smashed the passenger side window.

“Our members are working around the clock to apprehend the suspects,” said Audh.
