Security officer stabbed in the head

The officer is in a serious condition after a suspect stabbed him in the forehead with a screwdriver.

A SECURITY officer who was brutally stabbed in the head while trying to arrest a suspect at a local supermarket remains in a serious condition at the Netcare Umhlanga Hospital.

Jagatheesan Mudaly, who is a member of the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was stabbed in the head as he was in the process of handcuffing the suspect.

Nurses at the hospital told the Northglen News yesterday that Mudaly could not have outside visitors.

According to RUSA CEO, Prem Balram, the arrest took a turn for the worst when the suspect resisted the arrest. During a scuffle the suspect drew out a long screwdriver and stabbed the officer in his forehead. The suspect then fled the scene, he said.

“We suspect that officer will be recovering for a long time,” he added.

Mudaly, who is currently in the Intensive Care Unit, has reportedly lost his memory since the incident.

He is set to undergo surgery in the near future.
