Join African rainbow high tea

There will also be High Tea treats, free cappuccino, pop up market stalls, goodie bags as well as raffles and spot prizes.

HOLAH (House of Love and Hope) will host a high tea on Saturday, 5 November at Grace Riverside Church on Anthony Road. The annual event will see uMhlanga’s Lisa Bobbert entertaining attendees with some of the skits from her shows. There will also be High Tea treats, free cappuccino, pop up market stalls, goodie bags as well as raffles and spot prizes. There will be a fashion show by Pengelly as well as a children’s choir.

HOLAH, is run by Kim Brown and Leanne Lorrance who said the day was more than just fundraising, but also raising awareness on adoption as a first choice.

“I think what’s important for us is to have families thinking of adoption as a first choice. So much of the time people see the negative aspects of the process, and while there will always be negatives, there’s so much more to be positive about. We have adopted a child and it’s been the best decision of our lives. What’s nice to see is parents are choosing to adopt even though they can have kids. We are really hoping the North Durban community come out in support of the event,” Brown said.

Lisa Bobbert echoed the Brown’s thoughts.

“Last year we raised R20 000 for the baby house and this year we hope to raise more. Like Kim said, the idea though is to promote adoption as a first choice. One of the guest speakers, Sky, will be talking about how she adopted her child even though she was able to have one biologically. So many people see adoption as a last resort and it shouldn’t be that way. I think that it is part of a South African’s calling to follow in the vision of Nelson Mandela’s rainbow nation – what better way to start than by starting at home?” she asked.

The event will start at 10am and it costs R100 per person. Contact Bianca Thayer to book tickets via email: biancathayer@yahoo.co.uk. The theme for this year’s event is the African Rainbow.

  • All proceeds go to the NPO Likhon iThemba which runs House of Love and Hope Baby House (HOLAH). HOLAH is a baby house taking care of abandoned, unwanted babies and looking after them until they find forever families and the little ones are adopted. HOLAH has cared for over 34 babies to date. Likhon iThemba also runs several other projects helping less fortunate communities with monthly food donations and items that may be needed. The Likhon iThemba projects rely solely on fundraisers and community support to continue to help the vulnerable.
