Pug Olympics – Barking good fun!

Some of the highlights of previous events include, obstacle races, the potato and spoon race and the sprint race.

GET ready for one of the cutest events in Durban – the Pug Rescue South Africa’s annual Pug Olympics, which will be held at the Fulton School for the Deaf on Sunday, 16 October. “This is usually our biggest event,” said volunteer and animal activist, Storm Veronie.

The Durban North pug owner said some of the highlights of previous events include, obstacle races, the potato and spoon race and the sprint race.

“Every year there are also various competitions to enter, such as the Best Dressed Pug, the Curliest Tail or the Cutest Face. These are always popular and so much fun,” added Veronie.

Pug fans will also get to meet the founders of the organisation, Cheryl and Malcolm Gaw, as well as their beloved and famed rescue pugs, Pickles the dwarf pug and Pug Lee.

During the course of the day dozens of pug themed merchandise will also be on sale. Earrings, mugs, socks and phone covers are just some of the items that are up for grabs.

All of the funds raised during the event will be used to rescue, rehabilitate and home abused and neglected pugs across the country.

“We also welcome any and all donations, cash, blankets or food,” added Veronie.

Entrance costs R20 per adult, R10 per kids and one packet of Montego or Pedigree dentastix per pug. Vegan treats as well as hotdogs and hamburgers will also be on sale. Take along some umbrellas and chairs to enjoy the event.

  • This year’s Pug Olympics will be held at the Fulton School for the Deaf (8 Roosefeld Road in Gillits) on Sunday, 16 October from 10am to 4pm. For more information, contact Storm via e-mail on stormveronie@gmail.com or visit the website, www.pugrescue.co.za.
