David gears up for international title bout

Local boxer set for first ever international WBF International Junior Lightweight Championship bout in Slovenia.

DURBAN North boxer David ‘The Dangerous Darkie’ Rajuili is set to fight for a first international title shot this weekend when he takes on Giorgi Gachechiladze for the WBF International Junior Lightweight Championship belt in Slovenia. With a record of 21 wins and 23 losses, his opponent’s experience is something Rajuili is not taking lightly.

“You have to respect your opponent, no fight is ever easy. There’s no doubt Giorgi is more experienced, but I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life and I’m ready to bring home the title. I’ve had two local title fights before this but I’ve never trained as hard as I have for this fight. It’s going to be a huge learning curve for me becuase this is my first international title bout, but I’m looking forward to it. It’s a dream come true to compete on an international stage. I’m more excited than nervous.”

The 27-year-old who trains at Domination Knuckle Game has been sparring with newly crowned SA middleweight champ, Lee Dyer.

“I’ve been through a rigorous eight week training programme and Lee and my trainer, Trevor (Wolmarans) have really geed me up and kept me focused on my task at hand. You only get one chance in life and I’m ready to take with both hands,” Rajuili said.

His trainer, Trevor Wolmarans, said he is confident David can bring the title to KZN.

“David’s fitness levels, his speed, his accuracy and stamina is incredible. He has worked hard to get where he is now and I’ve no doubt that KZN and Durban North will have two titles at our gym come next Sunday. It’s a great opportunity for David and I know he is going to be crowned champ, there’s no two ways about it,” he said.
