Two arrested after eMdloti shooting

Two other criminals are still at large following the break-in on North Beach Road.

TWO men were arrested after a break-in at a flat on North Beach Road in eMdloti in the early hours of this morning. One suspect was shot in the foot and is under police guard at a government hospital, while a second suspect was caught in the lounge of the flat. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the incident occurred at about 1pm.

It’s believed the men were armed with a screwdriver and knives.

“The owner of the flat heard some sort of commotion and noticed three suspects entering her property. She climbed out her window and called a friend who alert other neighbours. Members of the police station and ADT security were on scene within minutes.

“One suspect was arrested in the lounge while a second suspect tried to escape through the window he gained access through. When he landed on the ground, an ADT officer posted at the back of the flat told him to stay where he was. The suspect pulled out a knife and advanced towards the officer who fired a warning shot. When that didn’t deter the suspect, he fired again, injuring the suspect in the foot. He is currently under police guard at a government hospital,”

Two other suspects involved in the break-in escaped into the bushes. They managed to get away with a flat screen TV.
