Join the biggest clean-up in KZN

Be part of this year's International Coastal Clean-Up Day (ICC) which takes place on Saturday.

ON Saturday, South Africa will mark its 20th year of participating in the International Coastal Clean-Up Day (ICC) – an annual, international event that sees thousands of volunteers flock to beaches around the world to pick up and remove litter from beaches and the marine environment.

Major beach clean-ups are being arranged around KZN, including one between 9am and midday, at the south bank of the uMngeni River (Kingfisher Canoe Club to the River Mouth).

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife takes responsibility for coordinating beach clean-ups at all the major beaches in KwaZulu-Natal. During last year’s ICC, Plastics|SA sponsored 250 000 bags that were used during these clean-ups that attracted more than 21 000 volunteers along the coastline.

Approximately 75 per cent of ocean litter is derived from land based waste. The coordinators of the uMngeni River clean-up are Cecilia amd James Benskin. Contact them on 081 547 0635 or 082 577 8191.
