Somerset robbers had handguns and rifle

The suspects repeatedly asked where the safe was and assaulted the domestic worker when she couldn't answer.

MORE details have emerged after this mornings armed robbery at a Somerset Park home. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the suspects, who were driving a Mercedes Benz pulled up to the house and told the domestic worker they were there to deliver something.

“The domestic worker was on the phone to her employer when one of the men jumped over the fence brandishing a handgun. She wasn’t suspicious she said, because people often drop items off at the house. The four others then stormed the home, one of the men was armed with what appears to be an R5 rifle. They assaulted the domestic worker demanding to know where the safe was. They repeatedly asked where the safe was relocated.

“She was struck a number of times but wasn’t able to tell the criminals where the safe was. The suspects then ransacked the house, taking watches, perfumes, a flat-screen TV and other electronic equipment. The domestic worker was extremely traumatised by the incident,” he said.
