Hijacker arrested after high speed chase

The hijacked car was tracked to an uMhlanga residential complex.

A MAN has been arrested just minutes ago after he tried to outrun a local security and tracking company from Illala Ridge in uMhlanga. The suspect’s vehicle, a Toyota RAV4, was hijacked in Morningside on Monday night. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the suspect was arrested on the corner of Blackburn Road and Mornington Road.

“The vehicle which was fitted with a tracking device was taken in a house robbery in Morningside last night. In a joint effort with Tracker SA we traced the vehicle back to Illala Ridge. When we spotted the vehicle we attempted to stop the driver and he tried to drive off.

“A high speed chase then ensued which ended in Parkhill. He was driving extremely recklessly and at high speed with no regard for other motorists. It’s unclear if he is a resident of Illala Ridge. The scene has been handed over to SAPS and the driver has been taken in for questioning,” he said.
