eThekwini eServices site a blunder says DA

The party has called for a special EXCO meeting to address the site blunder.

THE Democratic Alliance will call for a special EXCO meeting to discuss the failed information system site which published ratepayer’s confidential information, putting them at risk. The municipality’s “eServices²” site was launched on Wednesday last week with a confirmation e-mail sent to ratepayers alerting them that they could access the online portal to access their latest municipal bills and billing details.

When logging in‚ all ratepayer details including ID and phone numbers‚ email addresses‚ login information‚ municipal account numbers and residential addresses are clearly visible, making them vulnerable to scammers.

A delay in calling a special EXCO meeting will mean another opportunity to resolve this issue will be missed.

“The DA is perplexed as to why there hasn’t been any executive meeting in eThekwini, weeks after elections. How are the people of the City going to be assisted when a division, meant to run the municipality, has not met to pave a way forward for the municipality to function properly?

“If this site blunder is the start of many to come, the people of eThekwini must brace themselves for five years of poor service delivery and unaccountability. The DA will do everything within its power to prevent this from happening,” said DA KZN leader, Zwakele Mncwango.
