Springfield thief masquerades as guard

One of the five suspects held the victim captive while another snatched his cap to take his place at the entrance gate.

A GANG of thieves attempted to break into a Springfield business at the weekend while one of the accomplices pretended to be the guard at the entrance gate.
According to Greenwood Park SAPS spokesman, W/O Leon Audh a second suspect held the guard captive in a nearby bush.
“The guard alleged that whilst performing his duties as a security guard at a business premises on Willowfield Crescent in Springfield Park, he was accosted by five unknown males. The events unfolded after the victim had returned from the toilet,” he said.
After the guard returned to his post at around 11pm he noticed two armed men waiting for him inside the yard. One of the suspects demanded the gate key and unlocked the gate for three of his accomplices.
“One of the  perpetrators then held the victim captive at a nearby bush and another took his uniform cap and masqueraded as a guard at the gate,” said Audh.
The three accomplices then attempted to break into the company’s safe. When they failed to do so they fled in a blue VW Golf.
