Criminal ‘kingpin’ sentenced to life after Durban North robbery

He was tried on several charges including murder and armed robbery.

A MAN known to police as a cash-in-transit ‘kingpin’ has been sentenced to life in prison. Nhlanhla Danisa was recently sentenced to 10 years for a cash-in-transit heist at Pick n Pay Hypermarket in 2014, where R395 000 and a guard’s gun were stolen. His co-accused, who was also involved in the robbery, was also convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Danisa was then sentenced to life in imprisonment for the murder of an SBV guard in 2013. The 33-year-old robbed a cash-in-transit van at Bridge City Mall where he shot and killed a guard. He was also linked to another cash-in-transit robbery of R25 000 at a store in Chatsworth in 2014.

Danisa’s was sentenced to eight years for robbery, five years for possession of a firearm and five years for possession of ammunition. His sentences would run concurrently with his life sentence. The guns and money stolen from the heists have not been recovered.
