Suspects open fire on Greenwood Park cop

The policeman sustained three gunshot wounds after suspects opened fire on his vehicle.

AN on duty policeman was greeted by a hail of bullets after he reportedly pulled a vehicle over in the Greenwood Park policing precinct last night.

Details are stil sketchy at this stage, however KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, confirmed that a Greenwood Park policeman has been shot.

It is believed the officer sustained several gunshot wounds during the shooting on Queen Nandi Drive.

A source who did not want to be named told the Northglen News that the cop was caught off guard when the suspects flung open the back doors of the car and began firing.

The police officer was shot three times. Two of the bullets struck the officer in the leg, said the source.

Paramedics performed advance life support care to stabilise the policeman and he was then rushed to Gateway Private hospital.

He is said to be in a serious but stable condition.
