‘Its all about the charity’, says local Mrs Africa finalist

The local beauty is using her platform to raise funds for young girls who do not have access to sanitary products.

GIVING back to the community is something close to the heart of local Mrs Africa finalist, Ntombi Gumede.

Speaking to the Northglen News last week the 34-year-old model-turned-entrepreneur said she was not only excited to use the platform to support her various charities, but was also proud to be able to represent the province as well as the country as she competes against 40 other women in the Mrs Africa pageant in November.

“While I am excited and nervous about the pageant it is really all about the charity. I love giving back to my community and having a platform that helps you do that is really humbling,” she said.

The beauty, who originally hails form Inanda said she is currently involved in two projects – Dignity Dreams and Desk Bags.

Dignity Dreams is a charity organisation supported by Mrs Africa that strives to provide young women with washable sanitary pads.

We want to keep these girls in school. Each Dignity Pack holds three pads and three panties, which could last for up to three years. There are so many young girls who are missing out on school because they simply do not have access to sanitary products,” said the mother of two.

Gumede who owns and runs a business in uMhlanga will be hosting a family fun day at the Victory Christian Academy in La Lucia to raise funds for the Dignity Dreams project. The public will be pampered with free spa treatments while they can also enjoy inflatables, a cycling race and various other fun activities.

“Charity to me means giving back to the community not because you expecting anything in return, but you want to make a difference. Making a difference does not mean you need to change the world but you can maybe change one person’s life,” she said.

The event will be held from 12pm to 4pm. Entrance costs R50 for children and R100 per adult. Contact Ntombi Gumede on  071 678 0700.
