Is it ‘Eddison’ or ‘Addison’ Drive?

Residents have been left wondering if it was an official name change or a mishap.

RESIDENTS in the community have been left confused, albeit amused by what appears to be a spelling error with one of the most renowned roads in the La Lucia area.

Driving along Umhlanga Rocks Drive it hard to notice, however, if you were to stop along Burne Crescent one would note that the road sign for Addison Drive currently reads, ‘Eddison Drive’.

It is unknown when the sign was changed, but some residents say they noticed the error up to a month ago.

The question left by most residents on social media is whether the name of the road has been officially changed or whether it has been the result of a mishap by City officials.

The sign at the corner of Addison Drive and Minerva Avenue, however, still reads ‘Addison Drive’.

Tozi Mthethwa, eThekwini head of communications, said she was not aware of any name changes being recently implemented in the area.

“We will investigate the matter and make the necessary amendments if such are warranted,” she added.

Last year in August the Northglen News also reported on a ‘cringe worthy’ mistake with regards to the then newly painted road markings on the N2 uMhlanga interchange.

It became a massive controversy when residents discovered that contractors had painted the roadmarkings as ‘NSS’ instead of ‘N2S’.
