Show your support for Emergency Services

The Law Enforcement Foundation who are hosting the event hope the day will also raise awareness of the often under-appreciated and often unrecognized emergency services personnel.

LOCAL resident, Gill Austin has urged the North Durban community to come out in their numbers and support the Emergency Services Awareness Day on Saturday, 27 August, at Crusaders Sports Club. The event which begins at 10am and ends at 4pm will see displays from various emergency services department. The Law Enforcement Foundation who are hosting the event hope the day will also raise awareness of the often under-appreciated and often unrecognized emergency services personnel.

Now in its second year, Austin, a member of the foundation, is confident that the day will be a success.

“We formed the foundation to aid in the reduction of crime in our community. The group funds various crime prevention initiatives and works closely with the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF and the SAPS. We believe powerful communities are built on the back of a united effort and that’s why we are urging residents to come out and support the day.

“There’s going to be displays from various emergency services department and much much more. There will also be food stalls, a flea market, jumping castles for the kids, as well as mock hijacking, accident and rescue displays throughout the day. I think people don’t realize the responsibility emergency service personnel actually have, be it the police, security companies or paramedics. This day is about appreciating what they do for us as well as highlighting the work they do,” Austin said.

Austin added Dave Guiselli will be the MC and DJ for the day.

Tyron Powell, one of the founding members of the Law Enforcement Foundation echoed Austin’s sentiments.

“It’s going to be a fun day for the family and at the same time will raise awareness on the work the various personnel do. The traffic guy, Johan Von Bargen, will also be there and anyone wanting to stay on at crusaders for the rugby, The Sharks vs the Blue Bulls will be shown on the big screen from 6pm,” he said.
