Massive search for missing eMdloti swimmer

Onlookers said said two boys got into difficulty while out swimming on eMdloti beach.

A MASSIVE search for a teenager who was pulled out to sea in eMdloti is on. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), SAPS Search and Rescue, along with other local rescue personnel are looking for the 19-year-old who is down from Johannesburg on holiday. According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, the teenager was with a friend when an alarm was raised about them being in difficulty.

“Onlookers said the boys got into difficulty and the local lifeguards attempted to save the duo. One of the boys was rescued and pulled to shore but the other boy was pulled under the water. At this stage he is still missing and the NSRI rescuers are combing the area. There is yet no sign of the boy who has been missing for almost half an hour,” Botha said.

This is the third incident on this stretch of beach since December. During the festive period last year, a man was killed during a baptism ceremony. Then in January this year, a local man was rescued after a near drowning on the main beach in eMdloti.
