Pam wins senior masters title

The latest addition goes with her six Northlands Bowling Club ladies singles title, which she has won three times back to back.

UMHLANGA’S Pam Wolstenholme is no stranger to accolades. The Northlands Bowling Club member recently won the Port Natal Senior Masters Singles Trophy, a first in her career and a first for the club. The latest addition goes with her six Northlands Bowling Club ladies singles title, which she has won three times back to back.

“It’s unbelievable, I feel like I’m in dreamland. I’ve taken part in the senior masters competition for the past four years but I didn’t think I would win. I’m very happy because this is not just about me but it’s a great honour for the club as well. The competition featured about 12 other women and I was relaxing at the clubhouse when they announced I’d made the finals. I didn’t think I’d made it, so it was quite a surprise. I played the final game and was thrilled with the outcome,” she said.

Wolstenholme added her coaching experience has helped develop her game. An afternoon playing lawn bowls is an exercise in having one’s assumptions dismantled. It’s not a sport just for the elderly added Wolstenholme.

“It’s a more challenging sport than people think. It’s a game of skill and tactical acumen. You have to play the game to understand it. I’m proud and humbled by my successes. Of course there’s always an element of striving to win in any competition but I was playing for passion,” she said.
