Support SPCA’s ‘paw’fect cause

The event now in its fourth year, attracted more than 680 runners to last year's event.

THE annual SPCA Trail Run will take place on Sunday, 28 August. The event now in its fourth year, attracted more than 680 runners to last year’s event. Durban & Coast SPCA’s Lindsey Concer, is hoping to surpass that amount this year and is urging residents and families to support the cause. The trail offers a 5km and 14km route.

“It’s one of our biggest events and one of the biggest fundraisers for us. It’s also an event that keeps growing every year, so we are urging all those who want to take part to enter. Since its first year, we’ve just seen the numbers increase which is fantastic, there’s been so much love and support from the community. We receive no funding from the government and we rely solely on the generosity of the community we serve to support us and I’m hoping residents will come out in their numbers for the trail run,” she said.

Last year saw a whopping R71 500 being raised and this year Concer is hoping to surpass that.

The SPCA’s mascot Dougal, who will be running the 5km route said he is looking forward to this year’s event.

“I’ve decided to run 5km like I did last year, I’m not sure what I was thinking,” he joked. “The SPCA does fantastic work for the local community and the country, and I feel like we need to support them as much as we can. It’s good to be giving back,” he said.
