Armed gang hijacks father and two children

The three suspects confronted the family on their way to school.

AN Avoca father and his two children have been left traumatized after they were hijacked in Devshi Road earlier today. This is the second hijacking on that road in the last seven days and the fourth hijacking in the Greenwood Park policing district in three weeks.

The victims were on their way to school when three men in a hatchback confronted them. One of the men armed with a gun then forced the family out of their white Volkswagen Polo.

The armed suspect fled with the hijacked vehicle towards Umhlangane Road.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the victim later flagged down one of their patrol units. With a description of the suspects and stolen vehicle a manhunt was quickly coordinated.

“Our patrollers caught up with the stolen vehicle in KwaMashu. They lost him for a while in the ‘K’ section, however, within a few minutes they managed to find the car abandoned in the same area,” he said.

Van Reenen said the children were particularly traumatised by the ordeal, and that the Durban North Umhlanga Crisis Team was called in to provide counselling
