Daughters watch armed attack on parents

The armed men realised they could not drive the car and this intensified the couple's deal.

THE daughter of the couple that was hijacked in Effingham Heights on Wednesday last week has spoken out.

Speaking to the Northglen News the woman, who did want to be named, not only confirmed that her mother had been violently assaulted in the incident but also revealed that she and her sister watched helplessly from inside the Devshi Drive home. She said they had, however, pressed the panic button to alert authorities.

The woman said they saw their parents arrive home in the CCTV footage. As always her father (62) stopped at the bottom of the driveway to wait for the gate to close, but then a few minutes after he drove towards the house she was horrified to see four armed men jump over the gate and walk up the driveway.

“I immediately tried to phone my parents to warn them. My sister and I also screamed to alert my parents, but it was too late. One man pointed a gun at my mum (54) while another stood guard and two others held up my dad,” she said.

The men demanded the keys to the car and the father complied. However, the trouble began when the suspects realised they could not drive the car.

“They shoved my mother back into the car and hit her on the back of the head with the gun as they demanded to know how to drive the vehicle. My mother later told me that she was terrified that they would make her drive the car,” added the daughter.

“My dad then went closer and calmly put the car into reverse and told them how to drive the car. But then the men demanded the keys to my car,” she added.

“My mother told the men that they did not have the keys, but they kept asking. It was at this point that one of the men spotted the gate remote in my mother’s hand. Thinking that she had pressed the panic button he hit her with the back of the gun for a second time,” she said.

The man that stood guard then got into the father’s vehicle and began reversing down the driveway with the other three men walking down behind him while pointing their guns at the couple.

This is the third reported hijacking in the Greenwood Park policing district in two weeks.
