UMHLANGA’s Khanyi Malimela is once again set to rock the Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) catwalk with her glamorous designs.
After a trip to Italy earlier in the year, the 30-year-old along with 39 other designers will take to the ramp in 16 shows at the Durban Exhibition Centre from Wednesday, 31 August to Saturday, 3 September.
Last year Malimela’s ‘monster leaf’ print designs were a major hit. However, this hear the aspiring designer said she would be emphasising her minimalist style with a grey theme.
“After travelling to Milan I was inspired by their simple yet elegant designs. As it compliments my love for designing simple and clean lines for the everyday woman I decided to commit to a grey theme, which I have infused with white and black as well as a little lace details,” she said.
Malimela said the focus of her DFF collection was fabrics. “I am obsessed with texture. I have always enjoyed playing around with textures and fabrics. So, with this collection I kept the designs simple to emphasise the fabrics,” she said.
Tickets will be on sale at Computicket from Monday, 1 August. Prices range from R100 per person per show with students at R50 per student per show. For more information go to www.durbanfashionfair.com.
