Still no closure for Scriven family

Authorities will scale down the search operations until new information or possible sightings surfaced.

AFTER five days of intense search operations, Lindy-Leigh Swales, one of Brenda Scriven’s daughters said they were devastated that efforts had proved fruitless.

“This has been so unreal, a nightmare. We all need closure,” she said on Friday.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, following yesterday’s search efforts authorities would ‘scale down’ the operation until new information or possible sightings surfaced.

“I feel like we have exhausted all our options, but as a family we will not give up,” she Swales.

On Friday the SAPS Search and Rescue K-9 Unit completed the sweep of the Umgeni River and also tackled the Umhlangane River. Citizens once again turned up in droves to volunteer in the search for Scriven.

Earlier in the week authorities combed through a stream along Old North Coast Road where the Sunningdale resident was last seen. Extensive excavation was also done at the site.

“The community support has been out of this world. We had helicopters and big machinery as well as jet skis contributed towards the search. We are also so grateful to everyone who volunteered to help find my mum. I think it was what really what kept us going. I fear now that when all the activity dies down the reality will sink in,” added Swales.

The 62-year-old disappeared on Monday night. It is believed she was swept away by the torrential rains in Glen Anil.
