WATCH: Race to find missing Sunningdale woman

Authorities are once again sweeping the area in the hopes of locating the missing woman.

EMERGENCY services resumed their search for the missing 62-year-old woman this morning. Brenda Lynn Scriven disappeared in Glen Anil around 6pm last night while travelling home during the torrential downpour.

A community-driven search was stopped at around midnight last night, after authorities searched Old North Coast Road (NCR) as well as along Chris Hani Road, Sneezewood Lane, Columbine Place, Glen Anil Street and the River Horse Valley area, but found no trace of Scriven.

Kyle van Reenen of Marshall security said authorities are once again sweeping the area, as the visibility was limited last night.

Scriven’s niece, Donna Kincade, who was on scene, said her aunt’s car was found at the corner of Old North Coast Road and Sneezewood Lane.

“It is believed the floods pushed her car down the road from Glen Anil Street and had come to a stop against the light pole. She must’ve gotten out in a panic, as her keys were still in the ignition, and her cell phone, handbag and wallet was found in the car,” she said.

Authorities are sweeping the area in North Coast Road.

Eyewitness reports have alleged that a person was washed down the stream next to Old North Coast Road.

Crant Cockburn, chairman of the Mvoti Neighbourhood Watch, who was part of last night’s search, said the stream had risen up to four metres.

A section of the road next to the stream had collapsed and the road barrier had been severely damaged by the floods last night. The floodwaters were so strong that it washed a rubble skip, which was the corner of NCR and Sneezewood into the stream.

A section of the road had collapsed.
