4 injured in M4 crash

Rescue services had to use the Jaws of Life to cut one of the patients out of the wreckage.

AT least four people were injured during a head-on collision on the M4 near Virginia in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Henry Landman, of Crisis Medical, said one patient sustained critical injuries, and was trapped in the wreckage. Paramedics and firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the commuter.

“The patients were then safely transported to various hospitals for further specialised care,” he said.

The cause of the accident is unclear at this stage and is being investigated by the South African Police Service.
