Hijackings spike north of Durban

Two hijackings were reported on Wednesday evening alone.

TWO armed men hijacked a red VW Polo on Belmont Road in Effingham on Wednesday night. This follows a hijacking and abduction of an Avoca resident that same evening. Three armed men forced the man into the back of his vehicle after he was accosted. The suspects eventually released their victim in KwaMashu.

According to W/O Leon Audh, of the Greenwood Park SAPS, in Wednesday’s incident the suspects seized the vehicle at gunpoint.

“Threatening the man with a firearm they also demanded his wallet and cell phone,” he said.

It is believed that the suspects drove up behind the victim in a blue Mazda. What’s more, on Monday a mother and her baby became the targets of two would-be hijackers in Greenwood Park earlier this week. The duo managed to evade the armed suspects after the mother allegedly grabbed her baby and fled the scene. The suspects fled on foot after they failed to start the vehicle.
