DESPITE the overcast start to Saturday morning, volunteers showed up in their numbers to support the #CleanBlueLagoon initiative. More than 50 bags of rubbish were collected at the Beachwood Mangroves clean-up.
Passionate residents rallied together to pick up hundreds of pieces of rubbish which was littered along the mouth of the uMngeni River.

“Our clean-ups will now coincide with the Beachwood Mangroves open days to show how diverse our coast is and to highlight the importance of the reserve. Since March we have collected more than two tons of rubbish which shows how great the need is. I’m just blown away by the support and passion of the people here today. I’m incredibly grateful and hope to see this kind of community spirit continue,” said Johnson.
Around 80 per cent of rubbish collected was made up of plastic bottles and polystyrene.
