Zuma sends condolences to Lakehaven Centre following deadly fire

President conveys heartfelt condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones in a fire on Thursday morning.

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma has added his voice to the hundreds of messages of condolences for a youth centre following a deadly fire on Thursday morning. Zuma expressed his shock following the deaths of eight people who were killed when part of a dormitory at the centre went up in flames.

Seven children and one adult were killed in the blaze at the Lakehaven/Zamani Child and Youth Care Centre, which  caters for children who are abused, neglected and abandoned between the ages of 6 years to 18 years.

“We are very saddened by this tragic and painful loss of life and the serious injuries to other children. We convey our heartfelt condolences to all the families who are going through a most difficult period.

“May the injured recover well both physically and emotionally from this trauma. The provincial government is providing much-needed support to the affected families,” said President Zuma.
