Car crashes through fence of Greenwood Park home

Park Station Road residents say they are still in shock after a car ploughed through their fence.

A GREENWOOD Park family are in shock after a car ploughed through their fence shortly after midnight, stopping just inches from their front porch. The accident occurred on Park Station Road at about 12.30pm on Saturday morning. Brenda Widraj, said she was watching TV with her niece when she heard a sharp screech of brakes being applied.

“Then there was this loud bang. My niece looked out the lounge window and shouted there was a car in the yard, I just couldn’t believe it. The driver of the vehicle initially tried to drive forward and I shouted at him to stop because he would have hit the house. He then tried to reverse the car back up the steep bank but couldn’t.

“We called 10111 and the Greenwood Park SAPS van and Metro police also responded. We were shaking with shock. Police took the driver into custody after the accident,” she said.

When Northglen News visited the home earlier this morning, the yard was littered with debris from the car and pieces of the fence.

Widraj, who is looking after the house for her sister, said residents have been demanding traffic calming measures on Park Station Road for the last few years.

“My neice has lived in this home for almost twenty years and the next door neighbour who has lived here longer, said this is the third time something like this has happened. There needs to be speed calming measures placed on this road before there is a fatality,” Widraj said.
