THE eThekwini Municipality is once again ‘taking a tough stance on waste management’. The City said this includes includes tackling illegal dumping by naming and shaming those found guilty of the offence.

“A new proposed by-law, the Waste Removal By-law 2016, was presented to the Human Settlements and Infrastructure Committee. It currently awaits Council approval. Once adopted by Council, the By-law will come into effect six months from the date of publication in the Provincial Gazette.

On their website, Durban Solid Waste advises people who spot people dumping to phone their nearest DSW Depot and report the matter, giving details of when and where the dumping took place and details of the vehicle. “DSW will take action against the alleged perpetrators.

Ratepayers are encouraged to assist DSW in keeping the city clean by reporting illegal dumping,” they said. To report illegal dumping call: 031 311 8804.
